The Games Sherlock Holmes Plays.

01.07.2012 – These days there’s lots of ways to entertain you at home. Back in the day the board games was one of the original past times of the modern era. It’s a form of bonding with the family or the entire household. There’s so much different about playing games now compared to those nostalgic times. The advent of the game console has mostly killed off the competition not to mention the growing popularity of handheld devices. Nintendo’s Game Boy started it all for the gamers until the introduction of the tablets such as Apple’s iPad had change the way we find entertainment at home or on the go.

For those in such nostalgia one can never forget the board games. It might be Monopoly, Clue or just head out with a friend and play Battleships, but these are games that were popularized by the early 20th century. The oldest board game we can think of is the Backgammon, checkers or a game of chess.

Prior to entering the cinema to see the special screening of Sherlock Holmes: A Game Shadow our friends from Warner Bros. Philippines gave me a Post-Holiday present. All I know it’s a pocket version of a backgammon/checkers/chess board game. I only found out this was not only an ordinary board game it’s a special merchandise from the movie itself.

There were tiny pieces which included two metallic dices and mini tokens to play any of the three games. What made me smile about is that the fonts of the movie Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is printed in its metal case.

Truth to be told I haven’t played backgammon and only played checkers quite a handful of times, but that was back in my school days.

The game of chess was not quite a favorite and got stuck playing Monopoly with my relatives. Those where definitely the days when you just stay home for the weekends with your siblings and cousins huddled up in a room and just play the games.

Rarely will you see anyone playing board games now that an app for iPad is possible for you to download and play the game against a computer.

The film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is a chess game and as one of the key elements in the movie between the famed detectives goes head to head against his arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty. You’ll see how the story goes and thus explains this board game as part of the movie’s special merchandise.
